Another, shorter, comic idea. Really enjoyed drawing this one (though my gun is rubbish):
A smattering of applause
The art of Dante the Monkey.

Some early comic ideas
So, I've been sketching out some early interactions between main characters in my comic (including Mr. Broadside, who is now looking a little different).
I've also included some of the characters who appear early on, in headshots. The story is set in the victorian era and is a (slightly) supernatural mystery. Rufus, Cornelius, and (the newly named) Beatrice are the three protaganists - top row.
Unfortunately, these are still being done on the train to and from my day job. Each way is about an hour and I knock out about 3-5 A5 pages in that time. I'd love to work bigger, but the logistics (and personal space in a train carriage) prevent it.

Future work
I've been showing plenty of pencil sketches. I definitely have more time to sit and draw in pencil than anything else, but I also want to put up some of my colour work. Unfortunately, it's been tough to produce the kind of pictures I want.
I used to work in traditional media (mainly acrylics and occasionally oil) and transitioning to digital is a big shift. The biggest part is the shift from one brush, many techniques to a combination of technique and multiple settings. I work with computers, so I should have known that digital "painting" would be as much about defining clear rules to the computer as it is about waving a brush around.
Anyway. I have a few pieces I've been working on and a few hefty reference books that I'm leaning on to try and find my "way". I intend to start posting each piece as I progress (car crash or not). I'll be putting them up soon.
To those few who've visited, I hope you'll swing round now and then and see what's changed. I intend to post regularly (the big gap a week or so ago was a result of vacation). To entice you, I'm going to be working through a short list of "projects" alongside my sketching. To force me to deliver (or at least edit this post in the future), here's my task list, not necessarily in order:

- Practice drawing old people;
- Character sheet: comic character heads for reference (pencil and "ink")
- Speed paint: WH40K tribute

- Character sheet: Mary Stopes (pencil, "ink", and colour)
- Propaganda Santa - Christmas card

Some more faces...
I definitely draw more faces than anything else. It's a comfort-zone for me and one I need to try and break out of, but in the meantime...
Anyone who follows webcomics might recognise that first face. It was a quick attempt at Obsdrath (Obdrath?) Von Lucifuge from the webcomic Starslip.

Mr. Broadside
This is a sketch for a character I've been working on. He crops up in some of my sketches, as do other characters I hope to show you more of in the coming weeks.
For now, doffing his cap, is Mr. Broadside.
